apetito ltd welcomed three local schools to their development kitchen this Wednesday to battle it out in their annual Masterchef competition.
Nine schools from the region were invited to enter a menu detailing a three course meal, from which three were shortlisted – three-time winners Clarendon School, Trowbridge, St. Laurence School, from Bradford-on-Avon and Frome Community College.
This year’s theme, entitled ‘Traditional with a Twist’, saw British classics such as Beetroot and Bramley Apple Soup, warming Corned Beef Hash and Apple and Ginger Crumble with Brown Bread Ice cream amongst others.

Each school were allocated an apetito development chef and had just two hours to prepare their menu, and apetito’s team of judges were absolutely wowed by this year’s standard:
“Every year participants are raising the bar, but today’s menus were outstanding in terms of the thought and presentation that went into the dishes, with a real focus on the consumer in terms of taste and texture,” commented judge Tim Charles, Head of Product Development, apetito
Frome’s Smoked Haddock Prawn & Fennel Fish Pie was crowned the unanimous winner for its well balanced flavours and restaurant quality presentation. Year Ten winners including Corey Apps, Michael Topp, Celie Nigoumi and Paige Starr were thrilled to take home the prize:
“All in all it was a really fun day, getting to see inside the factory and working in a real kitchen. We worked well as a team and managed to keep laughing – but we think it was our presentation that really clinched it.”
All participants received a cookbook by Sam Stern - up and coming teen chef - with Amazon vouchers and £500 for the jubilant winners, who hope to return and retain their title in 2010.
