Distribution

Since April 2000 apetito’s fleet has operated from the national distribution centre in Portbury, Bristol. After creation at our factories in Trowbridge and Dudley every meal, sweet and pie and pastry is subjected to stringent quality checks for taste, texture and meat content – not to mention eight gruelling microbiological tests.

PortburyWhen complete and agreed for release all finished products are delivered frozen into Portbury’s cold store which runs at a distinctly chilly -23 degrees centigrade, the optimum temperature for our goods so they reach you in perfect condition.

apetito occupies approximately 9000 pallet positions with a staggering weekly dispatch of around 110,000 cases. Orders are assembled and distributed through our UK Delivery network.

We assemble 40 routes per day which are distributed from 6 transhipment points across the UK which we trunk to overnight. In a typical week we will make 1000 deliveries per week to 700 customers -this involves travelling over 2.2 million miles per year which will consume 1.1 million litres of diesel.

Diesel has lower carbon emissions than petrol but to further improve our impact on the environment we have introduced double-decker lorries for our longer and larger routes, carrying the goods of nearly two conventional trucks but using 60% of the fuel.

We have also recently undertaken a thorough review of our distribution routes, choosing to introduce more local distribution points. This project reduced our mileage by 1,000,000 per year, significantly cutting CO2 emissions and costs.

apetito also run a driver training programme for company vehicle users focussing not only on safety but also economy as driver performance has a substantial influence on fuel economy.

So signed, sealed and delivered you can be sure of products perfect at point of delivery.
