National Association of Care Catering

apetito has supported the NACC - National Association of Care Catering since its original launch in 1987. Originally called the Advisory Body For Social Services Catering, it was set up as a forum for local authority catering managers, and suppliers to the market.

The NACC is now split into 6 regions. Apetito heavily supports the organisation- Tim Watkins is the secretary for the Southwest region, Brian La Combre has just finished a 3 year stint as Scottish secretary, and Ellen Clayton is coming into her 4th year as Northern chairperson. In the past, Roger Hargreaves spent 3 years on the Northern and Scottish regional committee.

The NACC is growing both in numbers and in stature, gaining nationwide publicity when menu planning documents were launched at the House of Commons.

On an annual basis, it is due to the NACC that we celebrate National Meals on Wheels Week (as mentioned this year on the Paul O’Grady Show, no less). The NACC was responsible for creating National Meals on Wheels Day 20 years ago. It was so successful that a full week of the Local Authority calendar is now dedicated to it. The local authority division at apetito has helped to celebrate this event by creating special meals, and organising themed events along with existing customers to help to raise the profile of meals on wheels.

The NACC is a great organisation to be part of. Regional meetings are held quarterly, and it is one of the best ways of mixing with customers, suppliers of equipment, and, of course, keeping tabs on the competition!
