apetito has been supplying delicious and nutritious food to our customers for over 50 years. From our early origins in Rheine, north-west Germany, we have grown to become a trusted partner to care homes, local authorities and hospitals throughout the UK, the Netherlands, France and Canada as well as Germany.

Our expertise in catering for elderly and vulnerable people – expertise which is backed up by superb customer service – means we have grown quickly and have been able to offer customers an ever-expanding range.

Our factory

From our UK Head Office and state-of-the-art factory in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, we now provide main meals, desserts and cakes or pastries to meet a wide variety of dietary and cultural requirements. In the UK, we are proud to employ over 1,200 people who share the aim of making a real difference to our customers’ lives.Meanwhile, the apetito group as a whole has 8,400 employees.

apetito's timeline

1928Waldens Wiltshire Food was founded in Trowbridge, Wiltshire as a meat and dairy processor.
1958apetito AG founded in Germany.
1960sWaldens experimented with emerging frozen food technology, producing a range of frozen meat pies for the bakery sector.
1970Working with the London Borough of Wandsworth, Waldens started producing frozen ready meals for the local meals on wheels service.
1971In Germany, apetito began working with the Red Cross and developed frozen meals for the country’s meals on wheels service. Both Waldens and apetito became market leaders in their respective countries.
1994apetito Services formed to gain local authority meals on wheels business.
1995Westminster Meals Limited became the first private contractor to successfully bid for a complete meals on wheels service.
1995apetito AG takes its first steps in the UK, acquires Waldens and begins a programme of development of innovative solutions and quality products for community meals.
1998Westminster Meals Limited acquired by apetito UK and changes its name to apetito Services.
2000After dipping a toe into the healthcare market, we decided to launch our own dedicated healthcare division.
2002-2004apetito Services expands away from the south east into Peterborough, Leicestershire, West Berkshire and Swansea.
2008Our Care Homes business unit is launched. By 2011 we had reached £3.5 million sales.
2013 onwardsapetito is constantly striving to improve everything we do.
