Dementia research ideas 'needed'
14 Jan, 2011
Dementia experts are being urged to submit more bids to receive some of the government's £1 billion research fund.
Ministers have promised to prioritise dementia research from March and are offering additional support to ensure proposals are of a high enough standard to pass independent scrutiny.
Care services minister Paul Burstow will invite proposals to the National Institute for Health Research for high quality studies on dementia care, cure, cause and prevention.
"The Department of Health's research budget is nearly a billion this year - I want more of that funding to be supporting dementia research," said care services minister Paul Burstow.
He added dementia suffers, such as those who receive care home meals, need researchers to submit high quality proposals to advance the understanding of care, cure and cause.
Residential home catering might soon be in demand if multi-million pound plans to extend and refurbish the Hill House complex in Lyndhurst.
