We were extremely proud that 12 schools from the surrounding area entered the recent Wessex Masterchef competition held at apetito in Trowbridge.
The students were given a range of ingredients once they arrived, and asked to design a three course meal in one hour.
Three schools were shortlisted for the next round – Frome Community College, Lavington School and Sheldon School – and each was allocated an apetito development chef and just two hours in which to prepare their meals.
This year saw inventive dishes such as wild garlic soup, chicken with sweet potato mash and ratatouille, and chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce, amongst others.
Frome Community College’s menu was crowned the unanimous winner for its well-balanced flavours and restaurant quality presentation. The Year Ten winners were Oliver Baker, Hayley Smith, Ryan Hughes and Jack Barrett, who were thrilled to take home the first prize of £1,000!
All participants received a cookbook and Amazon vouchers, and the winning team are already planning to try and return to retain their title in 2012.
