BBC’s The One Show featured Leeds City Council meals on wheels service on Wed 01 December as part of their story on how valuable the meals on wheels service is to elderly and vulnerable people in the recent cold weather.

apetito supply food to Leeds City Council for their meals on wheels service as well as leasing our apetito Chefmobils to the council.

As stated by The One Show, “..snow and ice trap the old and infirm in their homes, that means it’s more important than ever for meals on wheels to get through...”.

Edith Craighead, who receives a daily hot meal from apetito on behalf of Leeds County Council Community Meals service, commented “...I do rely quite a lot...because I think if you get one main meal you can sort of plod on.”

John Holiday, meals on wheels delivery driver, feels his job is even more important in times of adverse weather conditions, “...when it’s snowing it makes you feel you are doing a more worthwhile job as you know people can’t get to the shops and they need a warm meal inside them.”.

This was backed up by Derek Johnson from Leeds City Council who said  “There probably would be a deterioration in their health because, obviously, there are a lot of illnesses related to [not] having a good diet.  There is a possibility of hyperthermia and all the other types of problems related to the cold weather.”.
