Hospital food catering and malnutrition
25 Mar, 2011
ITV's The West Country Tonight programme ran a report on hospital food and catering which highlighted how Derriford Hospital in Plymouth have improved their food catering and are seeing the benefits in patient health as well as receiving positive feedback on the food from patients, nurses and visitors since employing apetito as their food supplier.
The report highlighted the problem of malnutrition within hospitals by commenting "...across the country 13,500 patients become malnourished after being admitted to hospital...".
One nurse at Derriford commented that "...I remember a celiac patient recently who said that she'd been in many years ago and how she'd lost such a great amount of weight and on her most recent stay she said 'I actually looked forward to every single meal that comes...as it's really tasty' which is really quite unusual for celiac food, so I think it's greatly improved and patients are enjoying it."
The report also featured one of apetito's food tasting session which we ran on behalf of Derriford Hospital for their visitors in which the food received great feedback from those who took part.
