Improving Biodiversity At apetito
14 Sep, 2011
At our apetito site in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, we have been improving the biodiversity by planting rare West Country apple tree varieties. These trees have been planted around a special wildlife walk way within the grounds that has been created to not only offer a peaceful site for employees to enjoy but to encourage more wildlife.
England has the richest collection of apple tree varieties to be found around the world. Inevitably almost all of these don't make it onto the supermarket shelves and we are in danger of losing many forever. So it's a great idea to help preserve these seldom seen and often great tasting varietites.
The 'Merchant of Ilminster' is one of the four varieties planted, the other are 'Old Somerset Russet', 'Court of Wick' and 'Beauty of Bath'.
