Our history

From our origins in the Rheine, Germany to our pioneering products and state-of-the-art factory in Trowbridge, we’ve clocked up accomplishments and a history to be proud of.

Our timeline 

Waldens Wiltshire Food was founded in Trowbridge, Wiltshire as a meat and dairy processor.
apetito AG founded in Germany by founder Karl Dusterberg
Waldens experimented with emerging frozen food technology, producing a range of frozen meat pies for the bakery sector.
Working with the London Borough of Wandsworth, Waldens started producing frozen ready-made meals for the local meals-on-wheels service.
In Germany, apetito began working with the Red Cross and developed frozen meals for the country’s meals-on-wheels service. Both Waldens and apetito became market leaders in their respective countries.

apetito entered the UK market, looking for opportunities to expand in Europe 

apetito Services was formed to provide meals-on-wheels to local authorities.
The forerunner of apetito Services, Westminster Meals Limited, became the first private contractor to successfully bid for a complete meals-on-wheels service.
apetito  acquires Waldens and begins developing quality products for community meals and a programme of innovative solutions.
Westminster Meals Limited changes its name to apetito Services.
After dipping a toe into the healthcare market, we decided to launch our own dedicated healthcare division.
apetito Services expands away from the South East into Peterborough, Leicestershire, West Berkshire and Swansea.
apetito wins the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation for the first time, for developing the Chefmobil meals-on-wheels delivery van revolutionising the meals-on-wheels service by cooking meals to perfect conditions en route.

Our Care Homes business unit is launched. By 2011 we had reached £3.5 million sales.
apetito launches our first texture modified range of meals

apetito wins the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation for the second time for our texture-modified meals for people who have difficulty swallowing or chewing.
