Ensuring good nutrition

Our in-house dietitian and registered nutritionist work alongside our chefs to ensure that our delicious meals also meet the nutritional standards required by the British Dietetic Association (BDA), the National Association of Care Catering and the Hospital Food Standards Panel. Our in-house dietician regularly contributes to BDA groups to share and learn best practice among dietitians working in the NHS.

Helping people eat for health

Our meals help people to eat for health, whether they need specialist nutrition or simply want to maintain good health and wellbeing. This includes meals for people with particular medical conditions such as diabetes and malnutrition. Our texture-modified range for people with swallowing difficulties won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in 2016.

Committing to simpler, fresher ingredients

We’ve dramatically simplified our ingredients across the whole apetito range, leaving out unnecessary additives, salt and sugar with no compromise on taste. Plus we have an industry-leading range that’s free from 12 out of the 14 known allergens.

Driving standards beyond apetito

Our commitment to driving the highest possible standards in food and nutrition extends well beyond us. In the past year alone, alongside numerous professional memberships and representations, we’ve been actively involved with other organisations’ initiatives to improve standards.

This includes NHS England, the British Dietetic Association, the Department of Health’s Hospital Food Standards Panel, the Food Standards Agency, the Department for Environment and Rural Affairs, and the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative.

Creating healthy and sustainable meals

"We have always believed that food should be life sustaining. We believe that when we create great products and services that enhance the lives of the many vulnerable people we serve, our customers will choose to buy them in increasing volumes."
