The need for a New Food Manufacturing Facility
As a company we are experiencing strong growth and need to meet increasing customer demand. Our current site on Canal Road is no longer large enough on its own to produce the numbers of meals required.
Our plan is to build a new state-of-the-art food production facility, which will enable us to keep our manufacturing business at our home in Trowbridge - retaining our invaluable people and skills.
Our vision is for Kitchen West to be a world-class, regenerative production kitchen for Trowbridge that will have a net positive impact on the natural and human environment and provide resilience in the face of a changing climate. Our ambition is to build one of the most sustainable food factories in the UK – we look forward to sharing this with you.

The Site
The site is entirely situated within the Canal Road Industrial Estate at the northern outskirts of Trowbridge. It is made up apetito’s Pie Site land, the former site of Bradfords Building Merchants, two bungalows and a section of land purchased from Airsprung Group PLC.
Time frame
In March 2025, we hosted public consultation events with local residents and councillors to gather feedback ahead of our planning application submission. Following this, the building design has been refined to reflect local input and community priorities.
Initial site work to clear the site began in June 2025, after Wiltshire Council decided that prior approval was not required for the clearance of the existing buildings. Wherever feasible, the buildings will be deconstructed with materials from the existing site will be retained and reused in the new build.
A Planning Application for ‘Kitchen West’ was submitted to Wiltshire Council in mid July 2025 with a decision expected in the coming months.
