25 employees from apetito have joined together to raise over £1,000 to support those living with dementia by walking an incredible 24 million steps, as well as planning a daring sponsored skydive which is set to raise a further £2,000.
Working for the leading supplier of meals to Care Homes, Hospitals and to those living at home via Meals on Wheels and Wiltshire Farm Foods, the team at apetito felt inspired to raise money for the Wiltshire Alzheimer’s charity- Alzheimer’s Support – that provides vital support across the county for those living with Dementia.
The fundraising initiative began with the step up for dementia challenge, where individuals encouraged themselves (and each other!) to complete as many steps as possible over the course of a month. Some of the more creative challenges included walking the distance equivalent to hiking Mount Kilimanjaro, whilst others played it safe with a daily dog walk. Whatever the target, the team enjoyed the motivation to get moving and managed to complete an impressive 24 million steps between them, whilst fundraising for a charity close to many of the team.
Babs Harris, Chief Executive Officer, Alzheimer’s Support, is overwhelmed by the generous donation:
“We are very grateful for this incredible effort from our friends at apetito. The money raised will go a long way to making a real difference to the lives of the people we support who are living with Dementia. Thank you for all your hard work team apetito!”
Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro wasn’t enough of an adrenalin rush for everyone, and a further smaller team of daredevils are taking to the skies to also raise money for Alzheimer’s Support – having set themselves the ultimate challenge of a sponsored skydive. The courageous group six are due to complete the ambitious 10,000 ft jump out of a plane next month.
Lee Sheppard for apetito says:
“We are incredibly proud of the fantastic fund-raising effort by team apetito, not to mention impressed by the creativity of the team in doing so. Alzheimer’s Support is a charity that many of us at apetito feel passionately about supporting and we really hope this donation helps to make a difference.”
