Living Wage 2022

apetito leads the way as a Living Wage employer

Award-winning local employer, apetito, which employs over 1,850 workers across the UK and was amongst the first businesses in the UK to become ‘Living Wage accredited’ in 2016 – has this week, announced a 10.1% pay increase for all its Living Wage’ workers, with effect from December 1st, 2022.

The Living Wage Foundation announced its new recommended Living Wage in September 2022, encouraging businesses to bring forward mobilisation from May 2023 to March 2023, to help workers with the current cost of living pressures.

Taking its responsibilities seriously alongside the current economic climate, apetito has not waited until March. It has acted fast to support its employees with immediate effect.

HR Director for apetito, Sharon Larkin, says:

“We know just how tough it is for everyone at the moment” she says, “and it’s why we’ve taken action now well ahead of the March 2023 deadline, to mobilise the new Living Wage with effect from 1st December this year.

“The previous Living Wage was £9.90 per hour but now with our 10.1% increase, workers will be earning £10.90 per hour. We also pay all our employees an annual bonus, which is additional to this hourly rate and will take everyone’s pay well over the Living Wage recommended rate.

“We are pleased to be making this announcement during the Living Wage Week which is driving awareness of this very key issue alongside the measures announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement on 17.11.2022”.

Since its formation in 2011, the Living Wage Campaign has secured cross-party political support as a wage rate that is voluntarily paid by over 9,000 businesses who believe their staff deserves a wage which meets their every-day needs.

apetito has always said that the Government’s minimum wage does not go far enough and is proud to be working with the Living Wage Foundation. The company is currently recruiting for a number of manufacturing roles across both weekday and weekend shifts at its manufacturing site in Trowbridge and has been hosting a series of Open Days for interested job seekers to come and see the site, meet the team first hand, discuss their own needs and find out more about jobs on offer.

Larkin says:

“We are currently recruiting for roles that are all long-term permanent positions (not short-term temporary fixtures), that have good career development and progression opportunities.

“Our working conditions are some of the best and we offer great benefits and perks with the role.   I would encourage anyone who lives in, or around Trowbridge, who is considering a change in their working environment to see what we can offer.

“We value our staff across every role in the business and the packages we are offering are market-leading and creating a workplace that we can all be proud of”.

As part of the accreditation, apetito also insists all its contractors adhere to the new voluntary pay-rate.
